EEEEEEK!! THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING!!
So, now Citi Corp has come to the public feed trough. "Give us money!" they cry. So we do.
Has anyone asked what we get in return? Does the American public get low interest rate loans, or free mints when we open an account?
The big three auto makers came and asked for money. Are they going to sell us the cars cheaper, or give us all free XM radios for our investment if they get bailed out by the American people?
How about this? We instutiute a law that if your busuness makes over 500 million a year GROSS, the government places a portion (say 20%) of your business' money in a slush fund as "government insurance" to help bail you out if you become addled, and make loans to people with poor credit, illegal aliens, or members of the House of Represenatives (eg bad check scandals of the 1980's).
If you go twenty years without needing a bail-out and you prove you are still financially sound, you can get a rebate for half of the money you paid in, in the preceeding twenty years.
Why is this s hard to figure out? I kind of get a kick out of watching financiers walking around dazed, and saucer-eyed, looking like they have been hit on the head with a mallet, wondering what their mistake was.
"I can't believe that just because we spent money like drunken sailors, and made really bad loans to anyone that wanted one, we are in financial trouble!"
What? You expected the illegal alien, who broke the law to come here, to be good for a $100,000 loan? I don't think a loan shark would take those shaky odds, and they have a really good incentive to repay-broken knee caps.
You know, this is akin to someone winding up in the hospital after being in a 140 mph crash, and wondering, why they had an accident.
Yes, we can just keep injecting money so we can ensure AIG executives can go on more hunting trips, but how soon until the American people run out of cash, and we wind up bailing out the people we owe money to?
Evil Banker: "Gimmie free money!"
Us: "Ok here."
Evil Banker: "Good. Now, about your mortgage payment..."
